3D Puzzle Platformer - UE4 - 2021

Producer | 3D Artist

Overview

With a team of 6 students, Pip's Journey was made in 12 weeks from start to finish. It was posted on itch.io as a free to play title.

This was the first game I had ever made with a team and it was mainly focused on learning the process of building a game and individual growth. We were set on proving out an interesting mechanic with a beautiful simplistic art style in the form of a small complete game demo.

I acted mainly as a producer and 3D artist for this project, working with the other artists for art direction, keeping the team focused, and cutting unnecessary levels and features for scope.

As a Producer

I had pitched the original idea, so the team looked to me for guidance on next steps and this naturally lead into a production role. I set up regular meetings for the team so that everyone stayed connected and informed with team progress and got to know each other better personally. I used Trello for task tracking and with such a small team of only 5, I would look at the in-progress tasks and run through them one by one asking for updates and blockers. This is a project that I really enjoyed working on as it was the first time I had ever done production work and it is what inspired me to pursue production as a full-time career.

I did most of the 3D character work for this project including rigging, animating, and setting up the player character. I also created all of the in-game VFX using Niagara and Unreal Engine blueprints. I worked with the rest of the team giving feedback on art direction and color palette choices. I also helped with set-dressing where needed to lighten the load of work for the main environment artist on the team.
